Starting Monday, February 23, 2026, buses at the GTC will no longer line up on NP Avenue during layovers. Instead, they will begin to park in the lot south of the GTC’s currently unused parking lot.

This will help to reduce interaction with pedestrians and traffic on NP Avenue, and will continue until further notice.

Bus Lineup
For each layover/transfer window, buses will enter the lot from 4th Street N and line up from east to west in order of arrival. The buses will also depart in order from east to west. MATBUS staff will be available in the lot to help riders find the appropriate bus.

Rider Access
Riders can access the new lot from the southwest corner of the GTC’s sheltered outdoor area. From here, they can walk directly south to the lot through the opening in the fence. And ADA-accessible ramp has also been added in the transition area between parking lots.

Riders with low vision can request an escort to assist with navigation between the new parking lot and the GTC lobby. Notify a dispatcher at the Customer Care Center window, or ask your driver to alert someone as you exit the vehicle.

There will also be signs directing riders to the new layover area. Please travel directly to the new lot, without going elsewhere in the GTC parking lot. This area is off limits for safety reasons.

Transferring/Waiting
Riders should only board and exit buses to the north, staying to the front of the vehicle. Avoid walking in between or behind vehicles, and do not walk in the south and east sections of the lot where buses are approaching.

While waiting for your bus to arrive, please remain on the north side of the lot, outside the driving lane. This area will be designated with a sign.

There may be less layover time available, as buses navigate to and from the south lot, so make all transfers and boardings promptly. If you are waiting in the GTC lobby, pay attention to arrival screens and announcements, and give yourself enough time to travel to the bus lineup area.
